VICTOR SHERLOCK BROWN Sr.
She and her five siblings grew up in Crown Heights in Brooklyn, New York during the peak of the civil rights movement in the 1970s, which inspired her interest in political science and public service. A product of private girls school education in her native Jamaica, she describes the family’s move to America as being among the most challenging yet illuminating periods of her life. She reflects often on her father’s mantra, “If you don’t handle life, life will surely handle you”. “It reminds me that my life’s path is the one created by my decisions as much as my indecisions.” The second of Gladys and Victor Brown six children, she attended City University of New York and Columbia University earning a Bachelors and Masters, and was honored with an Honoris Causa Doctorate of Laws by the University of Technology in Jamaica. Dr. Brown Metzger is married to Stephen Metzger, PhD, a professional economist and economics professor. They have two grown daughters. She has one regret in life…her parents not being alive when she was appointed to the most important post of her career, that of Consul General of Jamaica, a job she accepted as much for them in honor of their struggle and accomplishment in raising and educating six children, as for herself.
